Today, Georgian wines are quite popular and widely known far beyond the borders of their homeland. For example, semi-sweet wine is in particular demand and love Kindzmarauli. This is a very famous drink, about which we want to tell you more about today.

History of Kindzmarauli

Kindzmarauli wine is very popular and in demand today. However, its path to fame is not as long as that of many other famous drinks. After all, the production of this drink began only in 1942. At that time, the winemakers of Georgia decided to create something new. The wine was made according to the best traditions and a special Kakheti method.

Kindzmarauli wine got its name from the name of spicy kinza greens, which were very abundant in the vineyards. At first, the locals called the area where the vine grew this name, and then the wine itself got the same name.

Geography of Kindzmarauli

The real Kindzmarauli wine is necessarily controlled by its origin, which indicates its excellent quality. In 2010, Georgia included the name of the drink in the list of its appellations, that is, this name is not applicable to wines outside the approved region. And in 2012, the country achieved exclusive rights and brand recognition.

Thus, the original Kindzmarauli wine is produced in the microzone of the Alazani Valley, which covers an area of only 120 hectares. This place is located approximately at the intersection of the Duruji and Alazani rivers.

Since the territory is very limited, the amount of harvest is quite small. This is why the real Kindzmarauli is not as common as we would like it to be.

The vine grows on sandy soils that were formed by the Alazani spills. The vine grows in sandy soils that are the result of the Alazani spills.

Kindzmarauli production

Kindzmarauli is a mono-varietal wine produced from the Saperavi grape variety. Interestingly, this variety is used in other regions of Georgia to produce only dry wines.

Grapes for Kindzmarauli wine are not harvested before the berries have 22% of sugar in their composition. It is this criterion that makes it possible to make a semi-sweet drink without adding sugar to it.

Our Kindzmarauli is made in the traditional way of producing naturally semi-sweet wines: the juice of high-sugar grapes is fermented at low temperature and the wine naturally becomes semi-sweet. The Vaziani winery makes Kindzmarauli in this way in steel vats. This is the typical Kindzmarauli that is known and loved in our country.

Characteristics of Kindzmarauli

True Kindzmarauli wine is distinguished by its rich cherry color, which is given by the Saperavi variety. It is called "dyer", as the skins contain a lot of tannins, which color the must. After tasting Kindzmarauli, teeth and lips turn a dark purple color. If it doesn't, it means that no Saperavi was used in the drink.

The aroma has notes of forest berries and cherries. Pleasant velvety taste pleases with its natural sweetness and pleasant acidity. In the aftertaste you can distinguish shades of blackberry and plum.

Such a drink will be a great addition to vegetable and meat dishes, a light dessert or a fruit plate.
